Meet the Girlfriends

Julie Henning, Midwest

Watching the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” at a young age, I’ve carried the spirit of TOWANDA the Avenger! with me into adulthood. The child of a history buff and an elementary-school teacher, family travel has been in my paradigm even before TOWANDA came into my life. Read all about the road trip adventures I take with my three young children at Road Trips for Families.

A Michigander by birth, Sun Prairie, Wis., is where we currently hang our coats. To me, girlfriend travel is as much about spa treatments and finding the perfect pair of shoes as it is connecting with other women, engaging in meaningful conversations and taking time to feed your soul. (And, let’s face it, ladies, sometimes we women just need a break from men and kids.) I love adventure travel, eating, and even the historical tour or two. My girlfriends are young and young at heart, multi-generational, and from all over the world. Join us as we remember, “Not all those who wander are lost.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

Karon Warren, South

Since moving to Georgia from Mississippi at the tender age of 5, I have been traveling the roads throughout the South. There were the return trips to my grandparents in Mississippi, the visits with cousins in Alabama, and the family vacations to Tennessee and Florida. Over the years, I have crossed the state line of every state in the South–and many more throughout the country–for a variety of getaways. However, one of my favorites continues to be the girlfriend getaway.

I feel that these girls-only trips are necessities, one I personally couldn’t live without. The time spent with close gal pals–as well as my mother and sister–is essential to my personal well-being as well as a fabulous way to recharge my mental and emotional batteries. And now that I have a daughter of my own, I look forward to showing her the value of a mother-daughter getaway that I’ve come to appreciate through the years.

I am always interested in hearing about great new places and activities for the next girlfriend getaway. If you would like to share your locale or special interest, please email me at karon@roadtripsforgirlfriends.com.

We’re always looking to support our girlfriends. If you’re interested in writing a guest post or are an expert on girlfriend travel in New England, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest or the Rocky Mountain region, we’d love to hear from you. Send us an email to julie @ roadtripsforfamilies dot com.
